My most favorite romantic song ever is Jab Kisi ki taraf dil jhukne lage” , very closely followed by Pehla Nasha”. There is something so very much magical about these 2 songs. I always listened to ‘Pehla Nasha’, whenever I feel in love ūüėõ Such eternally romantic songs come only once decade. But for me, two such songs came in one decade itself i.e. of ¬†the 1990’s…all thanks to the music composer duo Jatin-Lalit.

These musicians are easily the most under-rated music composers, I have seen. They have given so us so many timeless classics, but somehow they never got the credit that they so much deserved.

Still wondering what were the hit songs that composed?

Lets start with their first song Bin tere sanam…mar mitenge hum..aa meri zindagi”. This song got more¬†recognition¬†with its remix version.

Then recollect their first album”¬†Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. Hope you remember all the hit songs in it.

This was followed by 3 decent albums Khiladi, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.

Then came 1994,when they finally arrived with the history creating blockbuster-  DDLJ

1996 saw them arrive with another melodious album- Khamoshi

1997 they gave one of my all time favorite- Yes Boss

1998 was phenomenal with super duper hits like Kuch kuch hota hai,  Ghulam,  Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya,  Pyar To Hona Hi Tha and Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai

1999 came Sarfarosh, Khoobsurat

Then dipped in their form in 2000’s but still continued to give hits like¬†Mohabbatein,¬†Chalte Chalte,¬†Hum Tum , Fanaa etc

Suddenly surprised by recollecting these super-hit albums!

Not sure how many of you were even aware that these albums were created by Jatin-Lalit. We can listen to each of the songs of all the above albums, even today. All these songs were chart busters in their time. Absolutely all of these songs are timeless.

What was the integral part of their music?

Melody.¬†¬†This is what was an integral part of their music. There wasn’t much of techno music in them. It was the melody in all their songs which made them¬†perennial.

Most of albums that release these days..their songs run for at most 6 months..and then they are forgotten. We don’t like to listen to them again after that. BTW Sufi music has taken over Bollywood in the past 10 years. These days ..Music director aren’t afraid of experimenting, use new and fresh singers, use lot of techno created sound, have lot of Sufi influence, use¬†contemporary¬†fusion etc etc. Nothing wrong in doing that. But I personally miss the good ol’ music of these musical duo. Hope that they re-unite some day and come with another classic.

Cheers,
Deepesh Chandran
